the Uppsala Monitoring Centre - Africa |
|
the Uppsala Monitoring Centre - Africa was established on 1st June 2009 as per a UMC Senior Pharmacovigilance Fellowship to Dr Alexander Dodoo. The fellowship contract listed the activities that UMC-A is expected to carry out. In addition, it is hoped that UMC-A will assist in the development of PV in Africa and also highlight the global leadership and expertise of the UMC in pharmacovigilance. In October 2010, the WHO designated the University of Ghana Medical School as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Advocacy and Training in Pharmacovigilance with aims and objectives similar to those of the UMC. Dr Alex Dodoo is the designated Director of the WHO-CC. Discussions with WHO indicate the synergies in operation and, since the WHO designation comes with no funding, it is appropriate to support UMC-A to carry out its various activities in conjunction with that of the WHO-CC whenever necessary.
